Korean sunscreens have a huge fan base, but sensitive skin and US rules make choosing one harder than it looks. This guide helps you find the best Korean sunscreen for sensitive skin for you, from Korean brands that sell zinc oxide (mineral) sunscreens with a US Drug Facts label. Each label is checked on the US National Library of Medicine's DailyMed database or the brand's US product page.

US sunscreen note: In the US, sunscreens are regulated by the FDA as over-the-counter drugs, and US products may only use the UV filters on the FDA's permitted list. Many filters used in Korean sunscreens are not on that list. In June 2026 the FDA added bemotrizinol, the first new active ingredient added to its sunscreen monograph since the late 1990s (FDA announcement). Korean-market versions may differ from US versions, so check for a US Drug Facts label.

How we chose: We haven't tested these sunscreens. We only included products with a US Drug Facts label or a US-specific product page that we could check, with zinc oxide as the main filter (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are the two mineral filters permitted in the US). We also checked each ingredient list for fragrance and essential oils.

  • Labeled: Broad Spectrum SPF 50, water-resistant (40 minutes)

From LG H&H's The Face Shop, this is a 100% mineral cream with niacinamide and panthenol. The label describes it as sheer and mattifying. Its label says both fragrance-free and water-resistant (40 minutes), which is why we list it first for reactive skin.

Tinted mineral: Beauty of Joseon Tinted Mineral Dayscreen SPF 30

  • Mineral filters: zinc oxide is listed right after water on Beauty of Joseon's US page, and the list also includes titanium dioxide. Check the Drug Facts panel for the active percentages.

Tint is one of the best ways to avoid the white cast that zinc oxide can leave, especially on deeper skin tones. We didn't see fragrance in the listed ingredients.

Tinted fluid: Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen SPF 40

  • Filter: zinc oxide, which Beauty of Joseon names as the hero ingredient
  • Shades: 12
  • Texture: a watery, lightweight fluid with oil control, according to the brand.

It's a lighter, more "skin-like" alternative to the Dayscreen if you have combination skin.

  • Active ingredients: titanium dioxide 4.10% and zinc oxide 11.50% (US Drug Facts)
  • Labeled: Broad Spectrum SPF 50+
  • Watch out for: the inactive ingredients include mandarin orange peel oil, orange oil, litsea oil, limonene and citral. It isn't fragrance-free.

We included it for people with sensitive skin who want a zinc oxide and titanium dioxide formula and aren't reactive to fragrance. If citrus oils bother you, choose The Face Shop or Dr.G instead.

How to choose a Korean sunscreen for sensitive skin

Mineral vs chemical for sensitivity

Mineral (physical) filters, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, are generally considered less likely to irritate sensitive skin. Chemical (organic) filters can sting or cause reactions in some people, but many people use them without problems. If chemical sunscreens have stung you before, start with a zinc oxide formula.

The trade-off is white cast. Zinc oxide can look chalky, especially on medium-to-deep skin tones. Tinted versions like Beauty of Joseon's help a lot.

Fragrance, alcohol and essential oils

  • Check the inactive ingredients, not just the front of the box. A "mineral" sunscreen can still contain essential oils (like the Dr.Jart+ pick above).
  • Avoid "fragrance/parfum", essential oils, limonene, linalool and citral if your skin reacts easily.
  • High alcohol content can sting dry or broken skin. Look for alcohol-free claims or check where alcohol appears in the list.

Patch testing

  1. Apply a small amount to your inner arm or behind your ear daily for several days.
  2. Then try a small patch on your jawline.
  3. Watch for stinging that doesn't fade quickly, redness, itching or bumps.
  4. If it's fine, use it on your whole face. If not, stop using it. See a doctor if you have a strong reaction.

Where to buy

To avoid counterfeits and Korean-market versions, buy from the brand's official store or an authorized retailer, and check that the box has a US Drug Facts panel.

Applying it on sensitive skin

  • Apply it last in your morning skincare, after moisturizer has settled for a minute.
  • Pat, don't rub hard, especially on red or irritated areas.
  • Reapply at least every 2 hours outdoors and after swimming or sweating, as the Drug Facts labels direct.
  • Remove it gently at night with a balm or mild cleanser. See our Korean cleansers for dry, sensitive skin.

Frequently asked questions

What is the gentlest Korean sunscreen?

For most sensitive skin, a fragrance-free zinc oxide sunscreen is the gentlest place to start. On our list, THE FACE SHOP Everyday Mineral SPF 50 has a US label that states fragrance-free, alcohol-free and suitable for sensitive skin. Dr.G Green Mild Up is another good option. Always patch-test first.

Is mineral sunscreen better for sensitive skin?

Often, yes. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are generally less likely to sting or irritate than some chemical filters, which is why they're often suggested for reactive skin. They can leave a white cast, though, and sensitivity is individual. Some people react to other ingredients in a mineral formula, like fragrance or essential oils.

Why does sunscreen sting my eyes?

Sunscreen can migrate into your eyes with sweat or when applied too close to the lash line. Some chemical filters and alcohol are common culprits. Try a mineral stick or cream around the eyes, apply it a little further from the lash line, let it set before sweating, and wear sunglasses. Rinse with water if it stings.

The short version

The best Korean sunscreen for sensitive skin is a fragrance-free zinc oxide formula with a US Drug Facts label. Start with THE FACE SHOP Everyday Mineral SPF 50 or Dr.G Green Mild Up. Choose innisfree Daily UV Defense for redness, and Beauty of Joseon's tinted mineral formulas to reduce white cast. Patch-test, apply enough and reapply, and talk to a dermatologist if your skin keeps reacting.
